NATA Commander In Chief Visits "The Farm" "We're Almost There": President Albohm Delivers Unprecedented Motivational Talk to District 8 Certified Athletic Trainers at Stanford University
On December 3rd, 2008 Stanford University hosted NATA President Marjorie Albohm MS, ATC, LAT for a two day visit culminating with her first “State of the State” address to Certified Athletic Trainers in the Bay Area. It had been the first time a current NATA President visited northern California in over a decade.
“Wow! What an awesome day,” President Albohm remarked.
President Albohm spent over an hour captivating the audience on current issues including federal legislation, internal initiatives such as “Involve and Evolve” and Young Professionals, and provided recent updates on the APTA lawsuit. The “Commander In Chief” also answered questions from the membership relative to secondary schools, the college and university setting, and undergraduate education.
“It was great to see President Albohm connect with the membership in northern California,” District 8 President Scott Sailor, Ed.D, ATC added. “Hopefully, we can continue to have events like this here in the future.”
President Albohm’s visit also included a tour of Stanford’s exceptional athletic and sports medicine facilities, including the sports medicine program’s new Human Performance Laboratory. Additionally, the President spent time with the leadership and staff of the Stanford Athletic Training program and was pleased with their discussions.
“I think this program has come a long way,” President Albohm commented. “It was great to see firsthand how Stanford is celebrating ATC’s. It was a fantastic visit all the way around.”
Scott Anderson, MA, ATC, Head Athletic Trainer at Stanford University, was equally delighted with the visit.“ We are extremely grateful to Marje and the NATA for helping make this happen. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to host an event like this on the west coast. Additionally, it was an opportunity to show our President how Athletic Training at Stanford has evolved and improved over the past two years, and what a great program we are becoming.” He added, “Just like the NATA, it is a new and exciting time for us. We are building something special here, and we are working to become a model program at both the regional and national level.”
