Medical Insurance
Stanford University requires all students to be covered by current health insurance (parent, individual or Stanford Cardinal Care). Athletic scholarships do not cover the university health insurance fee. You must have primary insurance in place to waive this fee and must do so by the first day of each quarter or you will be held responsible for paying this fee yourself. We strongly recommend extending coverage during the summer months for all student athletes conditioning or participating in a sport. Please note, only hospital and medical bills associated with sports-related injuries will be covered by the athletic department’s secondary policy. Stanford’s secondary coverage only applies after the student’s primary coverage has been exhausted or denied. Non-sport related injuries may be treated at the Sports Medicine Center, but students are responsible for all off site costs not covered by their primary insurance for these injuries. The Sports Medicine Center provides a full time Insurance Specialist who can answer any questions or provide guidance with any of these complex issues.

Pre Participation Examinations (PPE’s)
The e-PPE is a comprehensive medical questionnaire that can identify health problems, symptoms and risk factors prior to participation in exercise and sport.
Developed and tested by medical experts and used by thousands of athletes, the e-PPE is an excellent way to obtain the necessary information to assist doctors or team physicians in evaluating your health prior to participation.
